About us

Villa Grivitsa is a an elegant boutique wine producer in the heart of a region with deep roots and traditions in winemaking. Grivitsa village is located in the region of the city of Pleven notable for the one and only Institute of Viticulture and Enology

The region of Pleven is well known with its traditions and experience in winemaking. It is a craft, which dates back to the 15th century. Wine is an important part of Christian traditions, which has furthermore guaranteed that the art of winemaking has been passed on through the generations.

In the beginning of the 20th century, in 1901 was established the Institute of Viticulture and Enology as a collaboration between the Bulgarian and French governments. Leading the joint work was professor Pier Vialla from the Paris Agricultural Institute. The region of Pleven was chosen as the right destination for the establishment of an institute, since the climate and the soil were appropriate, plus the long-standing traditions of the local people in winemaking.

Започнахме изграждането на винарска изба Villa Grivitsa in 2015 and since then all the wine we produce is made from our own vineyards. They are grown in an ecologically-concsious manner where the use of detrimental chemicals are non-existent or down to the required minimum. We keep our vineyards clean and healthy, so you are too!

Вила Гривица е разположена на територия от над 500 дка. Капацитетът на нашата изба към момента е да произвежда по half a million bottles per year!

The wine sorts raised in Villa Grivitsa have been meticulously chosen in accordance with the climate and soil of the region. We offer you a brief description of each of them:

Chardonnay is the mostpopular and widely recognized white wine in the world, deriving its origins from the regions of Burgundy and Champagne in France, where it has been grown since ancient times. Being in first place for the most consumed white wine, Chardonnay is also known as "The King of White Wines" or "The all time classic of white wines". There are three main production styles for Chardonnay: The light fruity style with no oak aroma. This wine is an excellent party to an elegant fish meal, mussels or oysters. Chardonnay is a harmonious white wine with floral and fruity nuances. In general wines' taste varies from a more fruity, ripe apple with pineapple and mango taste to a dry floral taste profile of white flowers, green apple, pear and citruses. The 'heavier' style of Chardonnay, which has matured in oak barrels is a great addition to intensive, full of taste meals like risotto, creme-soup, chicken and deli meats. If you love wines with a full body and taste, this is the one for you. It's characterized by the aromas of vanilla, egg crème, ripe or dried fruits, coconut, nuts, oak, butter and caramel.. The third style of production is of a sparkling Chardonnay.  Chardonnay is the only white sort of grapes, which is used in the making of the classic French champagne (the other two sorts are red Pino Noir and Pine Meunier). When the wine is made solely of Chardonnay it is usually one of the best and most expensive champagnes. The predominant aromas are of citruses, ripe apple, honey, vanilla and nuts. You can also catch a whiff of dried fruits, herbs and minerals. It goes best with heavier meals.

Chardonnay is one of the few wines, which can be tasted or consumed on its own - like a "Royalty" it is significant all by itself.

Treat yourself with our Chardonnay Villa Grivitsa.

Тамянката is an ancient sort of grape with origins in the Middle East - Syria, Iran, Iraq, Egypt and widely popular in our region in ancient times. Thracians were well-known as exquisite winemakers and traders. As of today, this sort of grape is being raised under different names in almost all wine regions. The dry wine Tamianka is served on its own as a welcome drink, aperitive or in the company of various fish meals and seafood, ripe cheese, spicy Asian foods from the Japanese, Thai or Chinese cuisines, as well as alongside desserts. It's characterized by an explosive Muscat aroma - a term, which consists of heavy muscus aroma and floral accents - vanilla and nutmeg, fruits and flowers - rose, lychee, melon and citruses.  Tamianka is an impressive wine of a local sort of grape, well-accepted by a wide range of wine lovers!  Impress yourselves with our Villa Grivitsa Tamianka!

Riesling is an old 'noble' sort of white grape with an origin in the lands between the rivers Rhine and Mosselle in Germany. Its name is mentioned in German documents as far back as the 15th century. Today the sort is widely spread in many wine regions under the names German Riesling, Riesling Renano, Rhineriesling, Rhine Riesling and others. The Riesling wine is not very popular among wine lovers in Bulgaria for now, but these impressive wines are one of the highest-prized white wines in the world. The dry Riesling goes well with vegetarian meals, sea food, chicken, turkey and others.

Riesling has a rich multifaceted taste profile. It is dominated primarily by white flower nuances of jasmine and acacia, peach, apricot, yellow plum and the exotic fruits - mango, lime and pineapple. You can also catch a slight taste of honey and honey wax, as well as the notorious "petrol" accents, which are more pronounced in mature wines.

Catch those nuances yourself with a bottle of Villa Grivitsa Riesling.

Cabernet Sauvignon is the most popular red wine sort in the world, with an origin from BordeauxFrance Besides France, the sort is also popular in ItalySpainUSAArgentina,   ChileAustraliaNew Zealand South Africa and others. It is raised in all wine regions and takes up to 10% of the global vineyards. In Bulgaria Cabernet Sauvignon holds the first place among the red wines. It is suitable for meals with red meats - beef, lamb, pork, bbq, burgers, as well as ripe cheese. The combination of the wine's rich tannin structure with juicy, spicy high-protein foods is as close to perfection as possible.

The all time highest prize among the red wines goes to Cabernet Sauvignon and it is distinguished with a rich dark red color, smooth texture density and an intense aroma of small red berries - blackcurrant, blueberry, blackberry and mulberry. The experienced wine tasters will recognize the characteristic nuances of mint, violet, eucalyptus and cedar. During the maturation process in the oak barrels the wines develop their rich, complex aroma, tons of spices are added, oak, smoke, chocolate, vanilla and cinnamon. In general wines develop their full potential after maturing between 3 to 10 years. Well structured wines from this sort are capable of maturing several decades.

Merlot is a wine sort originating in France. It gained popularity among the red wines in Bordeaux, which are a masterful combination between Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Fran and Merlot. In France the Merlot sort is mostly popular in Pomerol and Saint-Émilion. Merlot is second in popularity in the world only to Cabernet Sauvignon.  In Bulgaria Merlot is a well-known wine. In the spirit of red wines Merlot varies from a powerful, rich body wine with a high alcohol percentage and well-pronounced aromas of chocolate and coffee, through elegant, structured fruity wines with plum aroma, bitter cherry, chocolate and tobacco, to lighter wines with vanilla aromas and red fruits. Merlot is a perfect addition to a pasta meal, pizza, roasted chicken with potatoes, turkey or pork meals. Merlot is characterized by plum aroma, which goes through an aroma of plum jam with the more mature wines. Also you can catch a whiff of cherry, raspberry, graphite, mocha, tobacco and vanilla. Usually Merlot wines are elegant with a ripe fruity taste, well-balanced soft body, even softer tannins and enough acidity. This is what makes it a preferred drink by the ladies.
